Dear utm_campaign…

October 31, 2019

UTM_Campaign, we have been through so much together, but life is steering us in different directions. Can we be friends?

Ever since I got to know you, UTM_Campaign, you were part of my Holy Trinity. There were Source, Medium and you. Sure, we also partied with Term and Content, but only when we really needed to. You, on the other hand, were part of the most fierce threesome I ever witnessed in action. You know, you have always been my favourite.

Is it still OK if I call you Campaign? After all this time, it just seems weird calling you by your full name. “UTM_Campaign”. Buhhh, as if you even remember those Urchin guys. They were quick to sell you out, weren’t they? Abusing you ever since?

No, not me. I’ve kept you closer than any friend or enemy for all this time. Because of that, you have taught me so much along the way. If it weren't for you, I’d still be running around completely clueless. However, don’t say it’s all been take-take and no give from my side!

While Source and Medium were doing their Siamese Twin act together, I took you to the next level. Wherever we went, I made sure you were in the spotlight. I let you run the show. Everybody welcomed you with open arms. They danced to your tune as soon as you played it. We were doing great together. Until these Clid’s started to get between us.

I don’t even know, when did they get here, or how many of them are there? Your old friend Google hooked us up with Gclid, while sneaking around with Dclid in this dodgy little 360 suite they rent out together. That little floozy Bing introduced us to Msclkid, and I don’t even know how to wrap my head around that.

With all that in mind, I needed a little time to think things over. Now, I’ve come to a conclusion. We both want the same thing, don’t we?

With Source and Medium, there’s no question. We all know how easy they are. Those Clid kids? Not a problem, as long as they get paid. But you… I still haven’t figured it out. Nonetheless, I can’t let you break my stride. I’ve got to keep on moving.

That is why I bid you farewell, for now, my beloved Campaign. All I can hope for is that you will still be there for me when I really need you.
